The delicate shaded effect of this design is helped by the use of threads of different thicknesses. Stranded cotton is used in 1, 2 and 3 strands, along with sewing cotton (normally used for hems and seams) and Pearl no. 12 (often used in hardanger embroidery. Suitable for the stitcher with a little prior experience of blackwork.
